Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take my insurance?

We take most medical insurance. If you have a medical diagnosis, we can file your visit to your primary and secondary insurance. Examples of a medical diagnosis involving the eyes would include diabetes, cataracts, conjunctivitis, dry eye, or retinal diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Will my insurance cover the cost of my visit?

Your visit will be subject to your medical insurance deductible and any copays or coinsurance that are part of your medical insurance plan. A comprehensive eye examination also involves a refraction (the determination of your glasses prescription) that is covered by only some insurance plans. The cost of the refraction is $40, if not covered by your medical insurance plan.

Do you take my vision insurance?

No, we do not take any vision insurance. However, we are happy to provide you with itemized receipts so that you can file for any out-of-network benefits you may have available through your vision plan.

Why do you not take vision insurance?

Vision insurance provides very low reimbursement, their rates to providers have not increased for decades, and they often require the use of sub-optimal frame and lab vendors. Practices run by vision plans themselves, along with high-volume practices, are better equipped to take on vision plans. By not taking vision plans, we are able to better provide equal and exceptional care to all our patients.

What is the cost of a private pay (no insurance filed) exam?

A comprehensive eye examination including glasses prescription is $140. There is an additional, but optional, $39 retinal scan.

A comprehensive eye examination including glasses and contact lens prescription (soft lenses) is $205. The cost is $244 for a patient who is new to contact lens wear and includes required training on the insertion and removal of contact lenses. There is an additional, but optional, $39 retinal scan.

A problem-focused office visit ranges in cost from $95-$295.
